Oceans play a key role in achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
They cover 70% of the Earth’s surface and contribute substantially to human development:
- Food security
- Energy supply
- And many of the planet’s most critical ecosystem services (carbon and nutrient cycling, climate regulation, oxygen production). The market value of marine and coastal resources and industries is approximately $3 trillion per year or 5 percent of global GDP.
Yet, today 40% of our oceans are heavily affected by unsustainable practices.
The Ocean Action Hub is an open, interactive website providing information and promoting action globally to implement and achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life below Water before 2020.
If you are an individual concerned about the future of our Oceans – whether you are a local or global activist, a scientific expert, or a government representative – this platform was developed for you. Join the Hub to share your SDG 14-related information and resources with the Ocean community.
This platform is facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Governments of Sweden and Fiji.
