The state of New Jersey has the opportunity to make history and turn the tide for our oceans.
In short, Bills S.2776 and A. 4330 would:
- Ban single-use plastic bags while placing a fee on paper and reusable bags
- Ban plastic straws
- Ban harmful polystyrene foam.
This is huge because if these bills pass, New Jersey will be the first to ban all three of these harmful single-use plastics together! Anyone who has ever volunteered in a beach cleanup can agree that these three items are some of the most commonly found litter on our coastlines year-after-year. Not only does local wildlife choke on these plastics, but scientists are increasingly finding plastic in the seafood we consume. Not to mention that litter is a massive eyesore in communities.
